DIGITAbLe: Body-less movements and the porosity of digitalization

How do we come together in non-physical spaces? How do we move without a body? How can we be digital without the privilege of having access to all the resources needed to make such a change?

The instability caused by the current pandemic has challenged theatrical landscapes around the world in many ways. Over the past year and a half, many artistic approaches have been made in order to rethink and embrace the possibilities of digitization in the arts and theatre to develop new strategies for breaking down and undermining old barriers and fundamentally reshaping structures. At the same time, we cannot ignore the cracks on the digital surface made visible by others trying to survive in a world that is constantly trying to move forward, leaving many of us behind.

Gathering at a digital round-table the four artists – Rym Haddad and Cyrine Ganoun (Tunisia), Caroline Ngorobi (Kenya) and Reyhaneh Mirjahani (Iran, Sweden) – come together on Zoom to share their artistic research and practices and to reflect on the recent impacts of cultural digitization. Moderated by artist and academic researcher EkaterinaTrachsel (Berlin), they open up a collective investigation and discussion of the permeable and entrenched characteristics of theatre in digital spaces.
